Kingdom-Driven Relationships 101

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends" John 15:13

Navigating relationships as a young believer can be challenging and sometimes a bit confusing. With all the trends, opinions, and media influences telling us what a perfect or ideal relationship looks like, it's easy to lose sight of God's beautiful plan for connection and community. So, what does God really say about relationships?

Relationships from God's Perspective

Relationships are not just casual connections- they are purposeful. God is intentional, and nothing happens coincidentally. That is a carnal mindset. Whether professional, platonic, or romantic, God desires that our relationships reflect His character. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." The truth? Relationships shape us. Who we surround ourselves with either breaks or builds us up. That is why it is a necessity to invite God into this area of our lives. He wants us to rely on him and not just on our feelings or the rapport between people.

When Loneliness Feels Loud

There are times in our lives when we feel alone. Maybe it's not a feeling, maybe you're alone. It seems that way, but I want to remind you that you are not Alone. As crazy as that sounds, it's true. God has our backs. As Joseph M. Scriven beautifully captured in the hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", we are reminded that even in our loneliest moments, we have a faithful friend who bears our burden and comforts us.

This doesn't mean we should neglect relationships with others, nor does it imply that God only desires to be your one and only friend. He sees us for who we are and promises us peace and clarity. When faced with loneliness, pray and ask the Lord for guidance. Matthew 11:28 says, "Come to me, all those who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Also, listen to what He may be telling you regarding this situation. Stay connected to a godly community, such as the church; this could be a good place to start, but it is essential to heed what God has to say.

You are not alone; God goes before you, and he will never leave you. God deeply cares about your relationships. Invite Him in. Let him take control, heal your wounds, and direct your path. He'll surround you with people who reflect His love and bring us joy.
